My teaching methods are rooted in the balance between technical proficiency and emotional expression, reflecting my own journey and experiences as a guitar player. I craft custom lesson plans for each student, recognizing that everyone's musical journey is unique. For beginning students, I usually start with foundational techniques, ensuring a solid grasp of finger placement, chords, scales, and rhythm. I use a combination of traditional materials and my own specially designed exercises that cater to the individual's interests and musical tastes. Read More

No matter what age my student is, I will try to incorporate music they love, whether it's jazz, Hip Hop, Rock, or Pop. I have extensive knowledge of music theory and will make sure to cover chords, scales, and music notation while building familiarity with the instrument. Once the student starts to progress, I will start to teach songs/pieces of music one at a time. At first, it might be a simple four-chord song, and eventually the student will work their way up to something more complex, like a jazz standard. Read More

I tailor my lesson to each student, everyone has a different way of learning and interpreting the crazy world of music. For beginning students we start with the basics, how to hold a pick, how to tune your guitar and basic fretting technique. From there we go into the basic fundamentals of chords and scales. I always try to use example from the students favorite music, and teach this theory through learning their favorite songs. Read More

For beginning students I prefer to use either Alfred's, Mel Bay, or Hal Leonard method books. I generally stay away from method books that use guitar tablature because I find that student will prefer to read the tablature instead of standard musical notation. Tablature is a good way to easily show how guitar parts are played, but is not useful when teaching standard notation, music theory, harmony, etc. In addition to using a method book, I will also teach the student popular songs, which is a great way to start teaching chords and song structure in addition to keeping the lesson fun and the student engaged. When I was fourteen years old, my older brother brought home an old acoustic with only the two lowest strings on it. I started noodling around with the bass parts to Beatles and Motown songs and became a bass guitarist! Now hooked on music, I became a guitar player, graduating from strumming at a poolside party to learning by playing (and teaching) in a host of rock and roll bands. Read More

I have been teaching bass and guitar for 10+ years. Even in high school I had several students part time. For me, spreading my passion and love for music to others has been a source of great joy. In the last several years I continue to have a small roster of private students while I am actively gigging and rehearsing for projects. I find that meeting new students and getting to know their goals as a musicians is incredibly inspiring. Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
