I create my own lesson plans based off of the individual student. For voice students, we usually warm up, do technical exercises working on varying registers and techniques, and then work on repertoire. I often find the passages in a particular song that the student is struggling with and focus in on those, finding exercises to guide the student. For instrumental students, I work on a lot of music theory and reading, for students of all levels and ages. Read More

I always begin a lesson with having the student play a song/piece of their choice, so that they can feel confident and comfortable in their own skin and in the lesson space. For wind instruments, long tones and scales will occur at the beginning of the lesson, and will be followed by study of an etude and/or piece of repertoire. I will ask the student to sing through the piece, so that the student can make a connection with their own voice and with the music, followed by the student reading through the piece with their instrument. Instruments: Piano Voice Music
For my piano students, I like to use a mixture of books from the Alfred, Bastien, and John W. Schaum collections. I eventually assign more advanced solo repertoire as the student progresses. For my vocal students, I pick music based on their interests and vocal qualities. I have taught my students musical theater, opera, art song, gospel, pop, and many other styles throughout the years. I also like to make sure my students have a solid understanding in music theory and often give out worksheets that help them practice how to sight read, recognize different key signatures, and more. Since no two voices are exactly the same, I teach each student according to his or her specific age, needs, and goals. When teaching young or beginning singers, I start by working on foundational elements of vocal technique that are essential to healthy, beautiful singing such as posture, breath, support, and clear intonation. In lessons, my students and I use vocal exercises to strengthen the voice and build muscle memory. Read More

Instruments: Piano Voice
I have been teaching voice and piano for the last four years. I worked with a voice teacher back home where he taught me classical and pop/rock singing. I am very involved to every single student and I arrange the lesson accordingly. Some people come to me to work on technique and improve certain areas of singing and others are coming to work on performance aspects. I like to make the lessons interesting with fresh ideas and up-to-date exercises. Read More
