Detailed information on finger numbers, music theory and ear training, works and the composers of the works are also covered at the necessary points during the course. The aim in my classes is to minimize the student's need for a teacher in the long run. Apart from these, by talking about the effects of musical elements on the person, we reach a clearer understanding about style and school choices. Since my education is fed from Russian and German schools, it is important to teach them as well. Read More

I do believe in the fundamentals of music and ultimately, no matter what you hear, learning music is not re-inventing the wheel. There is technique, reading music and understanding the basics of how the particular instrument works. I like the Essential Elements for Guitar or bass for guitarists and bassists and Alfred's Piano method books. Ted Reed's Guide to Syncopation is a good drum book. Ultimately I like to get the know the student as much as I can as soon as I can so I can help them get to what they want as soon as possible with a few laughs along the way. Read More

All of my lessons are customized to fit the individual student's wants, needs, and goals (taking stock of the students' parents wishes as well). This will manifest naturally based on the personality and learning method per student (ex. verbal, auditory, kinesthetic) and the requirements of the particular instrument(s). With beginning instrumentalists I begin with the basics (ex. finger numbers, the musical alphabet, different patterns on the keyboard, the staff, note types and values, etc). Read More

I studied music at WPUNJ with a focus on music theory as well as the business side of the music industry.  I began teaching in 2006, and it continues to be a wonderful journey.  I enjoy inspiring, motivating, and encouraging each student to become acquainted with the instrument so he or she can become more thoroughly skilled. I'm skilled at piano and electronic synthesizers, in which I can teach Classical or Contemporary music. Read More

Over the course of many years, I've developed a method for beginning piano and woodwind students which yields excellent results. For the first series of lessons, I want the student to become comfortable in understanding the keyboard or the wind instrument, avoiding the secondary interface of sight reading. There are about twenty short, simple, basic songs I have the student master. At this point, not only are we working on understand the harmonic and melodic "hardware" of the keyboard or horn, but we are developing proper technique in terms of hand position, posture and sound as well as a natural rhythmic feel.
