I began teaching private lessons four years ago in various genres such as jazz, pop, musical theater, and classical - with a bit of music theory for those who have expressed interest. Students of mine have participated in recitals and have written their own compositions. For all of my students, I like to begin by teaching correct "warm-up" methods. It is important to learn how to "warm-up" correctly so as not to hurt your voice. These methods usually differ from student to student, depending on their voice. For beginning students, I would like to begin with "Twenty-Four Italian Songs and Arias". I have taken several courses in different music pedagogy and techniques as well as genres of music.  Using the knowledge from these courses I have been enabled to form my philosophy of teaching to incorporate different teaching styles to help my students.  I feel that the main prupose of these lessons is to aid the students in their needs and wants whether it is understanding certain parts of music theory, techniques, or just understanding the basics with a piece of music.  Also, my students feel that they are able to come into a lesson with some ideas about what they want to get out of lesson while including my thoughts on what they need to work on. Working for a local drum teacher in 2005, I started teaching private music lessons in students' homes. From there, I took up residence at a local music store where I taught guitar, ukulele, bass, harmonica, songwriting, and music theory for the next fifteen years. During the pandemic, I added teaching virtually to my repertoire and have fallen in love with it.
