I am a classically-trained singer and piano player  with over 10 years of private teaching experience.  I have performed in several recitals including the Early Boston Music Festival.  In addition, I have performed with sveral different choirs throughout the years. For older or more advanced students, I find the Guild Series to be quite effective and interesting. With these students, following their interest, we continue with sight singing, composition and improvisation. With adults, we work on what they're interested in (classical, rock, blues, gospel), but with a firm grounding in fundamentals: scales, cadences, etc. For all my students if they don't respond to one set of materials, we switch to another until we can find a good match. Many kids are struggling with focus and discipline, so piano is a tool to improve their focus and discipline. With private lessons, it is important to tailor the sessions for each student individually. Some students require to a "push" while others might want a more relaxed lesson.
