I do focus more on skills: developing the Voice (developing a belted voice, head voice, or whatever is needed) and Performance, unless Music theory is requested. I start my students with standard songs, classical, Broadway, (unless a specific genre is requested) but expose my students to different genres and help them find the strength and uniqueness of their own voice. I ask all young students to purchase a practice record book so assignments are written down and practice time is recorded weekly. Accordion students begin with the Palmer & Hughes Accordion method.
