I like to show students first, visually and audibly, how a piece or an excerpt goes that way they can begin to learn it already knowing a basis. I try to let students play through their pieces as much as they can so they can become adjusted playing through an entire piece and not just small segments. I have used a variety of books with my students, but generally start students with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. I use a mix of books (note reading), ear training, and musical games (depending on age) in lessons. I like to offer students a variety of learning styles, in order to find the one that best suits them. I am flexible and open to requests, but I will also guide students through their learning process with the materials then should know in order to succeed. Read More
