Early on (both in the teaching relationship and in each lesson) one must assess where the student is, as to technical and musical growth, and with the music at hand. For Voice I cater my teaching to the student's goals and aspirations. The first 10-15 minutes of a lessons are spent doing vocal warmups and sightsinging exercises. The remaining time is spent working on repertoire that the student and myself choose together. For Piano I work out of the Faber Piano Adventure Books. These can easily be purchased on amazon after the first lesson. For continual progress, it's imperative that the student has a piano or keyboard at home to practice on. Read More

I don't use a particular teaching methodology or repertoire series, but instead pull from a variety of pedagogical techniques and song anthologies, tailoring each lesson to the student, where they are in their vocal development and on that particular day. I teach both classical reading and modern music theory to ensure a well rounded approach. I use the book series by Faber to cover classical reading. I believe Faber books do an excellent job at covering all areas of music. I make sure to keep tabs on my students' practicing as I believe in consistency.
