Method or style technique used will always depend on the preference and requirements of the student. It will also depend on the style of music. For example, classical guitar requires perfection of technique for good execution. This requires practice of scales, arpeggios and such. However, if the student is older and just wants to be able to strum a few chords then that requires a different approach where we focus on simple technique and work on things like rhythm or posture etc. Read More

Also, I often encourage them to listen to different recordings to let the style grow in their pursuit of music. Read More

Keeping an open conversation and weekly challenges to keep the student motivated and have something to look forward to. Read More

I am very open to teaching a variety of styles, and can put together a detailed lesson plan for any direction the student may choose. In the event that the student is primarily focused on areas other than the classical repertoire, I definitely begin with Mark O'Connor's violin method that is specifically designed for students interested in traditional folk and fiddle music. I love to see my students reach musical maturity. Therefore, even, a beginner will sound musical after just a few lessons. I always remind them to push forward to higher levels. I always advise them that practise is the key and the more they practice the faster they advance. Classes consist of warming up exercises, then the student works on the music assigned and the Instructor gives it a grade. Read More
