I assess student and their current level and based on that I decide whether to start with Basic or little advanced etc.. Also I try to understand their objective of learning music, what they wish to gain. I have experience teaching all levels and genres and change my teaching to what is best suited for the learner. With piano students I enjoy using John Thompson and Alfred methods for beginners and I choose different songs as students get more experience. For voice students I use simple songs to develop their vocal technique. Through effective warmups and reading, students will develop musicianship skills. For piano, I typically use Bastien and/ or Hal Leonard. I always ask for the students input, opinions on rep, and am always asking them questions to get to know their personalities and other interests.
