My teaching style is very transparent; I want my students to recognize what we are working towards and how close they realistically are to that goal. This way, the student and I are working together to achieve a greater understanding of their instrument! I love feeling like I'm helping a student gain an understanding of a topic, rather than simply dictating a list of rules to know. I myself have an appreciation for many different styles of music, so I do my best to help students understand stylistically what is appropriate, necessary, and customary about the repertoire they are performing. For beginning students who are children, I greatly emphasize vocal exercises to help strengthen their voice. Once the student has a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce repertoire based on the genre of music they prefer, as well as basic songs that would benefit them to learn. No matter the ability level, fundamentals are of the utmost importance. Having a wide range of repertoire is also helpful learning different styles helps a student become more versatile. Read More

I completed my Bachelors of Music at Mannes College in 2012. I have also completed my Masters of Music at Rice University under the instruction of acclaimed voice teacher, Dr. Stephen King. In April of 2014, I performed the role of Lady Billows in their 2014 production of Brittens Albert Herring. Over the summer, I also performed extensively with Aspen Music Festival, singing Pamina, Despina and La Contessa in Opera Scenes Master Classes and understudying Sybil Vane in The Picture of Dorian Grey. I have been teaching music in various capacities for approximately the last four years. My private studio has included both in-person and online lessons. As the music director of Smooth Progressions A Cappella, I worked with college students of various skill levels to produce an EP and an album. We sang everything from Irish folk ballads to Justin Timberlake. I was also the assistant music director for Kids of the Arts in New York City, putting on High School Musical with over thirty children ages ten to eighteen. Read More

I use a variety of methods for my teaching style. I usually have a few method books that I bring to a first lesson, and after meeting the student I will decide on the best one. Once the student has progressed and shows some motivation to be slightly challenged, I'll introduce "popular" music so that the student feels a sense of accomplishment! Music is associated with movies, radio, etc., so to be able to play something recognizable is exciting for the student and the teacher. Read More

Although my instruction, guidance, and expertise in my field will most assuredly contribute to the growth of my students, ultimately, the extent to which a student succeeds and flourishes is contingent upon their willingness and dedication to practice outside of the lessons. I generally expect my student to record each lesson as reinforcement of the techniques, vocalizes, warm-ups, etc. studied in each lesson. This also allows the students note their progress over time.
