My approach to singing comes from yoga. I begin every single lesson with about 2-5 minutes of breathing exercises that stem from yoga practices. As humans, the first thing that we do before we make any kind of a sound is breathe. I believe that understanding your own breathing mechanism will give you your most honest, authentic, healthy, and full sound. Every voice is unique and specific achievable long term and short term goals need to be set accordingly. I don't believe in forcing one style of music onto my students. I believe that each student needs to set their own goals and therefore I like to go at the pace my students prefer. While I am happy to help set some basic goals and will assign work to do outside of our lessons, I believe that long term goals are our own. Therefore, if you are getting ready for college auditions or simply improving your singing so that you can share your music with loved ones, I will go at the pace required by your goals. Read More

My teaching style is one that is not used much at beginning levels but for me, that's why it works. Teaching a young student how to play the instrument by sound and not by reading notes allows them to use their imagination while playing. When students figure out for themselves, that is when the best kind of learning happens.
