I believe each student has unique gifts. I love watching my students thrive by encouraging self-exploration as we learn about music. If a student loves playing by ear, we seek knowledge of composition more, if they are inspired to play Star Wars, we add that to the repertoire. If a good solid foundation is built through the sequential lesson books along with motivating material, retention is higher. Hi, my name is Marianne! I graduated from Garden City Community College in 2011 with an Associate of Arts degree in Piano. From there I transferred to Southwestern Adventist University where I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Sciences and minored in Vocal Music. I love to share my passion for music with others, and I hope to convey that to my students as well. I've been playing over 20 years as a soloist, accompaniment and for church services. I also sang in the school choir starting in middle school, but I've been singing and writing poetry pretty much my entire life. For the young students who are just starting out in vocal lessons I like to recommend starting with the proper breathing techniques and moving in to singing from the diaphragm and more experienced techniques will follow after that. After we have touched on those techniques we will move in to the performance portion of the lessons and how to connect with the song and then being able to portray the message of the song clearly and efficiently to the audience so that they can connect to the emotions that are coming from the song. For beginning students who are new to music, I typically like to start with learning notes, note names, and rhythms. I like to incorporate rhythmic exercises and other fun activities to get them to enjoy what they are learning. For adults, I try to find out how much the student knows about music and see what their interests are. Based on what the student knows, I guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging, fun, and knowledgable. Read More
