Depending on previous experience, voice lessons tend to begin with foundations of breathing and relaxing the muscles of the jaw and throat. From there, repertoire is developed based on the long term goals and needs of the student. I have taught piano from the Bastien, Keith Snell and Alfreds Music series, and feel most comfortable when the student is open to my advice about which series would be a good fit for then :-) i also firmly believe that working on material a prospective student loves listening to is paramount! For beginning students who are children, I typically start with a simple and fun melody from a song they enjoy. While learning this they will learn to read the notation, the notes they are playing and the scale it is in. This process will continue on into chords and chord shapes from songs they enjoy! Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, we will begin putting together full songs from front to back and delving more into why the music functions as it does. Read More
