I've been teaching woodwinds and strings for about 8 years now, to students of all ages and abilities. In that time, I've worked with students making their very first sounds, all the way to helping my students successfully audition for university music programs (often receiving scholarship!). My training and certification in Music Therapy gives me an additional perspective on how music and musical ideas can be used to improve and assist all aspects of life, and in particular I enjoy working with students who possess learning or developmental difficulties. For beginning students, i like to start with the Essential Elements method book. The pieces in this method book are good for beginners because they are short and simple. For more advanced students, I like to delve into the Suzuki method books and then into more advanced solo repertoire from there. However, each student is different, so each student's lesson may look different. While I was participating Edinberg festival In U.K, I had chance to share my music with young musicians and people. Most students were sometimes getting good but sometimes they have a hard time playing with difficult notes that I teach. Some students were getting good on the beginning methods and understanding what the music book is going to read and learn about. I encourage the students to practice the beginning methods seriously for about 30 minutes. If the student is getting a little hard, she can take a break for 10 minutes and go back to the homework.
