My teaching experience is minimal at this point in my career as I have just graduated music school and am now making a shift into the world of teaching drums. During my days in college I volunteered with a music program called SLAM! to teach music to students at TS King Middle School in Silver Lake, CA. I feel as an instructor I really gained a grasp for teaching through the SLAM! program, I also learned that I am very comfortable teaching students of all ages. Read More

My aim with every student is to develop an excellent playing technique. Good playing habits will bring out their best in any type of music. Understanding meaningful phrasing and giving their music a "voice" are also important skills. Regular practice is important, too, so having a piano or keyboard at hand is essential. With beginning students, I also include a little music theory at every lesson, which can often be applied to improvise tunes and chord progressions. Read More

I am a Ventura California local who has dedicated my life to music. When I am not playing live shows or teaching, I am constantly pursuing new and innovative ways to hone my craft. After completing the prestigious Ventura College Music program; I can confidently say I posses an in depth understanding of music theory and instrumental technique. I have fallen in love with music and truly believe I was bought into the world to spread music to my fellow man; both as an instructor and as a professional gigging musician who has played all over Ventura County with my award winning band Old Soul. For beginning students I like to begin with a combination of Hal Leonard's Essential Elements and Suzuki Method books. I find Essential Elements to be useful for learning the fundamentals of playing the instrument and music theory. However, Suzuki offers the ability for students to quickly play solo repertoire. I also incorporate learning and understanding scales for the purpose of learning fingering patterns and intonation. As students progress, I also find Rick Monney's Positions Pieces extremely valuable. Read More

I specialize in teaching beginner guitar... even students who have never touched a guitar. I typically begin by teaching a very simple chord progression to a popular rock song, and by changing the strumming pattern, it's 2 songs in 1. By the end of the first lesson, I want the student to be able to play a song, not just random chords, so they can play along to it as practice. Then I assess what style, song, or band the student wants to learn so we can work towards playing material from that group or artist. Read More

Most of the pieces I chose on my own were movie scores or television theme songs such as The Wizard Of Oz, Star Wars, Titanic, and the Simpson's theme. I absolutely adored these pieces of art and still do to this day. It took a great deal of time and patience learning the classical repertoire my teacher would choose for me but over the years I have grown exceptionally grateful for the classical, romantic and impressionistic era’s of music and art that my teacher exposed me to. Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
