Most repertoire will be taken from early italian songs, art song, folk songs, or musical theatre. The students will have a strong influence on what pieces he or she sings. For intermediate students I want to really forcus on text painting and understanding the words. Also we will continue building on basic skills learned as a beginning student. My style is very relaxed and fun and I make the lessons very student focused. I do not believe in a 'monkey see monkey do' style where I simply show the student and have them repeat the concept or technique, but rather a discovery learning approach where I provide the needed support for the student to learn and apply the concepts.  I have been teaching in the Columbus area for 14 years.  I have studied piano and voice for 30 years performing and had experience auditioning for and performing in musical theater, opera, and contemporary settings. After earning my degree from otterbein, I have maintained a studio of 25-30 students in the westerville/New Albany area.  I currently reside with my husband and three children, three dogs, and a cat in New Albany where we run one location of my studios. My teaching style feels relaxed but I work hard to keep students in their least restrictive environment. We dont want the student to be too challenged or bored. For this reason I am flexible with the content we work on and the order in which we complete different parts of the lesson. I give a lot of choice to students, maybe one day they want to start with working on some improvisation and want to work on their assigned pieces the 2nd half of the lesson. Read More

My teaching began in the late 1990's as professional musician in the United States Marine Corps teaching new Marine Musicians how to double & triple tongue and play minor scales as well as Greek Modes.I enjoyed the challenge of teaching someone a skill or technique.
