I have been teaching in the Columbus area for 14 years. I have studied piano and voice for 30 years performing and had experience auditioning for and performing in musical theater, opera, and contemporary settings. After earning my degree from otterbein, I have maintained a studio of 25-30 students in the westerville/New Albany area. I currently reside with my husband and three children, three dogs, and a cat in New Albany where we run one location of my studios. I also lead worship for Vineyard Columbus in Westerville and for New Albany Methodist Church.
EXPERIENCE
I have been teaching piano 20 years ago as a first job out of a small church in Millersburg, Ohio. I had been taking piano since I was three and had been doing competition piano. I then went to Otterbein College and earned my degree in Voice. From there I started working for Music and Arts in Westerville as a piano instructor for 10 years. I went on to run my own business for those students that needed in home lessons. In 2013, I started as the Choir and Band director in Genoa for Genoa Christian Academy while mantaining a private studio in the Westerville/New Albany Area. As we moved our family to the new Albany area I started working for GNG Music in New Albany. Over the last two years I have maintained a private studio of 25 students a week.
METHODS USED
Bastien Books are my favorite piano books to teach out of. But, Others are good as well. (Piano adventures, Alfred, Faber and Faber, ect) For piano we always do Theory , Technic, and go through a song book which will take you gradually through the levels and correspond the Theory and technique lessons. For Voice, We focus on Breathing, Warmups and I teach in the style that suits the student. Each student has their individual track. I also do goal pieces which can be performed at our semiannual recitals.
LESSON STYLE
One of the things I love most is the shock of parents and students who expect that either they themselves are going to dread the lessons or practice session or that their child will give up and hate practicing. Parents and students tell me how exciting they are to come each week and hit each milestone. I make learning fun! Simple as that. I have had so many students over the years who are so nervous and timid about playing or singing and by the time we get to the first recital, they are confident and light up on the stage.
