I am a Highly trained student of “ Belle Canto” singing. This is the study of classical voice focusing on beautiful tone and fluidity in all styles. I sang and still sing rock and jazz regularly. Using this study of voice applies so perfectly to all of these styles as well as most styles that we enjoy in the western world. I personalize my lesson plans and drills to accommodate the student's strengths, weaknesses, and over all goal. I will push you to your limits so you can go even further than you thought you could. I work with people of all ages ranging from 4-100! Many of my students sing in bands or in karaoke and have never had a voice lesson before. My frequent students are guys who want to improve their vocal stamina while singing in a band, usually with guitar. The foundation of any good technique is the most important aspect of maintaining that technique in a healthy way; similar to a dancer practicing at the bar each day, I encourage my students to internalize the foundational warm-ups first, upon which we'll build the rest of the vocal practice. My favorite piano method book for children is the Bastien Piano Basics Series. Alternately, I sometimes use the Faber & Faber Piano Adventures. For very young children (3-6) "My First Piano Adventure," a Faber publication, is my book of choice. For adults, I usually use Alfred's Basic Adult Piano Course, though sometimes I skip method books and play pieces picked by the student. Assessment is the task during the first lesson. I must determine the student's voice type, and what style of music the student would like to pursue. If a boy's voice hasn't yet changed, I'll assess whether he is an alto or soprano. I'm a keen believer in teaching one to sightread and encouraging one to improvise with his/her instrument!
