My teaching started in my undergrad, about 5 years ago when I was required to take a Vocal Pedagogy class as part of my major. From there I fell in love with teaching. I was able to expand on my love as a substitute teacher at Rabun Gap Academy in Rabun Gap Georgia in 2012. There I taught five girls ranging from 8-15. I continued that until 2014, I then took on two colleagues, a girl who was 24 at the time and a guy who was 19 and taught them for a year. Read More

I have a very creative teaching style. My emphasis is on student-centered learning. Learning should not solely be myself giving instruction and the students listening. In order for students to grow, discovery on their part needs to happen through guided questioning. The more this happens, the more that students are inclined to make their own discoveries and become their own teachers/motivators for improvement. Nothing means more to me than a student with an appetite and love for music! It warms my heart when a child grasps a concept in a lesson and really understands what we are aspiring to. I truly love helping people uncover their passion for singing and developing their unique voice. During the first lesson, I ask the students about their musical goals and if there are particular techniques they feel they want or need to master. I ask the student to keep a record of this, as having a mission or musical goals is vital in keeping engaged with practice. From here, I help them isolate the various techniques they are working towards in addition to the aspects I feel need attention. Read More

My biggest priority is making sure that my students are having fun in an uplifting, supportive, and positive atmosphere. I find there's something special about every student, and focusing on that as a place of confidence can skyrocket their success.
