The books in this curriculum, allow each student to advance at his/her own pace while maintaining consistent progress. I usually take the first lesson to gauge what the student wants from learning their specific instrument. If they want to learn a specific song, if they want to get better at a certain genre, or if they just want something to do as a hobby! I believe it is counterproductive to force a certain system or lesson series that the student is not interested in. For beginning students, I will start with standing position and breath training along with simple vocalize and songs that students like to sing. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals I will begin to introduce technical repertoire. Singers use a lot of different emotions and they need to feel very much at home with their teacher in order to explore those moods.
