I've seen the face of an 80 year old grasping the ukulele and finally getting to hear himself playing his own songs, and seeing the glow in his eyes like a child. When you set realistic goals and set what steps are going to get you there, all the while celebrating each little victory, every lesson depends on the needs of my student. I am a classically trained singer with a Master's Degree in Vocal Performance who lives, performs, and teaches in New Orleans. I frequently perform professionally in several genres of music, including opera, jazz, musical theatre, and pop. I also have several years of experience teaching in all of these genres. I sing with the New Orleans Opera and St. Cecilia's Asylum Chorus, in addition to fronting my jazz band, the Melanie Gardner Quintet, which performs regularly on Frenchmen Street and around the city. To complement my studies on drums, I studied jazz theory with reknown bassist and educator Scott Mason and jazz arranging with former Buddy Rich trombonist, Tom Garling. After graduating in May 2011, I have had the oppoutunity to play in major Chicago venues like The Metro, Lincoln Hall, Congress Theater, Reggies, Rosa's and many others. Also, I have been fortuante to have played at locations all over the U.S. and shared the stage with musicians like Warren Haynes and Jimmy Herring (formerly of The Allman Brothers). Read More
