New Orleans has welcomed me with open arms and I have been able to play with, and learn from many great musicians here. The first significant gig I got in New Orleans was with the Jason Marsalis vibes quartet. Jason was also a teacher of mine in college and he hired me for many gigs upon my arrival to New Orleans. Goals are always tailored to individual student interests. I like to assign practice homework, which is a mix of technical exercises and song-based learning using student-preferred music. I love to watch students peel back the layers of the onion and discover how their favorite artists make music, from learning common chord progressions to transcribing solos note-for-note to imitating playing styles.
