I have been teaching percussion lessons since 2010, when I lived in Norfolk, Virginia. I began teaching young K-5 students the basics of percussion like proper technique, posture, note recognition and values, different styles of music, etc. I began by asking the parents what their child was interested in and based on the conversation, I catered the lessons to each individual student. I've been teaching guitar and general music lessons since high school, where I would assist the music teacher in guitar and theory classes because of my advanced skill level. During my undergraduate studies in college, I put myself through school teaching private lessons in my home and at various music stores, churches, and performing arts schools, teaching around 200 students in 5 years. When I went back to school to get my masters degree, I was awarded an assistantship and taught music theory, music appreciation, jazz ensembles, and jazz improvisiation at the university, in addition to keeping a robust private guitar studio on the side.
