My goal is to inspire and invigorate my students with the gift of music. Scales and fingering/vocal exercises can become boring and tiresome especially for new and younger students. I find ways to make these more mundane parts of the lesson fun with games and veiled learning that keep students engaged. I have been told that I am a very energetic and encouraging teacher - I want my students to succeed and to be happy in their singing! I defintely will not stay seated behind the piano for the entire lesson. I like to get up and get involved! I won't ask students to try anything that I won't demonstrate myself first, which I have found usually puts them at ease (this is especially true with children and teens.) I have been a voice student myself for many years, so I know how it feels to be in their shoes, and I try to be as constructive and encouraging as possible while helping them discover their voice.
