Instruments: Piano Voice Trumpet Euphonium Music Keyboard
I began teaching trumpet when I was a high school student. My students were middle school aged peers within my school district that needed additional guidance. While in college, I maintained two dozen or so students within my own private studio. Some of these students were non-music majors that were given to me by my own voice professor. My primary instrument is the human voice. A complicated yet versatile instrument that is unique in every person, and as such should be treated with specific pedagogical methods that best suit a student's age, skill level, and learning style. I love teaching music! But, what's more, I throughly enjoy sharing the gift of music with my students. I believe that passion fuels action. If I want my students to be actively engaged in the learning process. I have to do my part as the teacher and involve the student in the music choosing process, before I can involve them in the music making process. Typically, I like to start every lesson by spending some time working on specific vocal techniques. Good fundamentals are very important - developing good singing habits while getting rid of bad ones is key to consistent improvement. I believe that as a teacher, the best thing I can do for a student is to give them the tools to succeed outside of the lesson. We also spend time practicing musicianship skills, which means time spent on ear-training and learning to read music. Read More

I would like to see students progress each week, and each lesson. I will let them take their own pace, and see how much they can grow. I will ask intermediate and advanced students what their goals are so I can help them achieve their goals at the end of our lessons each week. For beginning students, I just want to see how they can progress and what can I keep teaching them. Read More

Before the first lesson I always like to inquire with the student (Parent/Guardian) if the student has taken lessons in the past, in order to better teach, and assign practice material. However, if a student has never taken lessons before, I recommend to young students the Alfred's Basic Piano Lessons Book 1, and for my adult students I will send supplemental materials via email, but also encourage that they purchase in the future, "Essential Piano Repertoire" Level two by Keith Snell.
