I teach always. I teach by example, and I teach formally. My formal teaching background begins in church when I was 19. I did my mom a favor and started teaching/leading the children's choir. It was fun, I enjoyed it thoroughly, and our 2 performances went GREAT! It gave me a taste for it so I became an actual teacher in the SMCISD school district as a Focus Teacher (Special Education). I have learned so much over the past few years teaching and professionally performing. I taught children ages 4-18 piano, voice and dance lessons. I discovered each age group requires a different style of teaching. I pride myself off of making sure the child feels comfortable in the lesson first and foremost. I like to connect with the student over common likes and dislikes. My style of teaching is positive and encouraging. Read More

I believe that half of the joy of making music is sharing it with others. In 2011, I graduated from Howard Payne University with a degree in music education, where I often performed lead roles in production spanning from "Bye, Bye Birdie," to "Gianni Schicchi." I am currently pursuing an advanced degree in Vocal Performance and Pedagogy from UTSA, and am projected to graduate in Spring 2015. I have had the opportunity to perform both around the State of Texas, as well as in Italy. Read More

I will ask intermediate and advanced students what their goals are so I can help them achieve their goals at the end of our lessons each week. For beginning students, I just want to see how they can progress and what can I keep teaching them. Read More

I like to create lesson plans around what kind of music the student wants to learn. For example, most young girls want to learn Disney princess songs. So I print them off their own copies of the songs that they had expressed an interest in learning. I feel like if the student is not interested in playing or singing the music that I am giving them it could be the best curriculum in the world, but it won't help them learn if they are not actively engaged in the music they are singing or playing.
