i have been teaching for 55 yrs both privately and in teaching studios as well as in group settings . i have volunteered teaching classes at the ymca , the boys and girls clubs . continuing education at northern kentucky university . i have taught musicians on stage as we perform . i love to teach as well as i love to play live. i also teach music theory and composition. i teach all stringed instruments including piano and drums . i teach all instruments . even those that i do not actually play . sax flute trumpet etc. if you can play one instrument you can play them all once you know where the notes are . right ? lol . Therefore, I will be having weekly studio classes to allow all students to gain confidence in performing in front of fellow colleagues while also gaining constructive feedback in a masterclass type setting. A lot of musicians are jacks of all trades, learning multiple instruments. But the only thing I ever cared about growing up was singing. I sang as a kid with my mom. I sang in middle school and high school choir. Singing got me a scholarship to college. I graduated from King University with a double major in Music Education and Vocal Performance. I like to start by exploring where the student is at in their musical education and what they are looking to study in private lessons. From there, we build the lesson around them! Once we’ve established where to begin, I’ll ask the student to choose a piece they’d like to perform and I’ll assign them a piece of my own choice as well. For my classical students I'll typically start with art song repertoire and for musical theatre I'll choose a classic piece. Read More
