first i ask what the student desires to learn . what type of music etc. once i have taught a few songs i ask the student to write a list of songs that they would like to learn. i teach how to find the key that the student sings in and how to transpose the song into that key. if the student does not wish to sing i teach them how the instrument of their choice works . again regardless of the instrument i usually am able to teach a student two songs in an hour lesson . one in four four timing and one in three four timing . there is nothing better than to see the light come on in a students face and see the confidence of ' i can do this ! We start by getting to know each other. The voice is the must intimate of instruments, and there is a lot you can do with it. What are your goals? What are your concerns? What do YOU want from our time together? Then we will explore where your current level is. And that can be wildly different in different criteria. Every voice is unique. I've taught students that can't match pitch yet. Read More

My teaching begun during my years of private instruction as a high school student. The wonderful aspect of my former teachers were that they allowed more advanced students to teach students that were not as advanced therefore giving the more advanced student a chance to learn and develop skills of teaching. I also taught private students through college and was hired to teach as an interim class piano instructor at Bethune-Cookman University while there was a lack of piano teachers. Read More

I believe each singer is a unique individual, Therefore, the sound they make and the ideas they communicate are as unique as they are. My number one priority is to help a singer find "their special voice" through exercises that accommodate aural, and visual learning styles. These exercises lead to healthy singing and reduce tension, improve breath management, strengthen the voice, and increase range. I will also assist in my student's selection of a variety of appropriate arias and songs (including sacred, secular, and popular) for college / school auditions. Read More

I have taught music classes (choir, music theory, hand bells, recorders, and general music) for Kindergarten-10th grade for seven years, and I have taught private music lessons for over 10 years. I have taught students as young as five years old, and I've had students well into their retirement years as well. Everyone can enjoy learning about music; that's what makes music so unique and amazing. My highest goal is to inspire my students to love music, practice well, and perform to the best of their ability. Read More

Boiling down one specific method to generalize my technique of teaching is difficult. Each student is so unique and requires different types of teaching and technique to reach their goals. I have some students who are very visual and we use a lot of hand movements to place where their voice needs to be, and I have others who are very technical. Overall, I focus mainly on getting the sound out without strain on the vocal cords and on breathing correctly. Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
