Instruments: Voice
We start by getting to know each other. The voice is the must intimate of instruments, and there is a lot you can do with it. What are your goals? What are your concerns? What do YOU want from our time together? Then we will explore where your current level is. And that can be wildly different in different criteria. Every voice is unique. I've taught students that can't match pitch yet. Read More
Instruments: Trombone
I am a creative, passionate trombonist, composer, arranger, and teacher who enjoys just about any aspect of music. I graduated from Stetson University in 2014 with a Bachelor of Music in Trombone Performance, and was recently accepted to the University of Central Florida's Master of Arts program, focusing on trombone performance and music theory. So far, I have performed on alto, tenor, or bass trombone in Florida All-State orchestras, the 2007 Honor Orchestra of America, and nearly every possible large and small ensemble at Stetson University, as well as with the Youth Brass Band of Central Florida and the Southern Winds. Instruments: Saxophone Flute
I tailor each of my lessons to the needs and desires of each individual. I am fond of using method books such as Hal Leonard's Essential Elements or Bruce Peterson's Standard of Excellence (or, with school children in a band program, whatever their method book may be), but I also like to bring separate handouts or sheets of exercises, drills, and songs that I have created over the years. I want each lesson to be engaging and fulfilling, and for the student to feel as though they can achieve the tasks set before them for each suceeding lesson. Read More
Instruments: Bass Guitar
My experience spans 30 years, beginning with my university studies. For the past five years, Ive taught students of all ages, always focusing on helping them feel the music from within and connect with the songs and styles they genuinely want to learn. Im flexible in my approach because it keeps students engaged and motivated. My lessons are practical and interactive, while also incorporating music theory so each student can understand the structure, harmony, and purpose behind what they are playing and learning. Read More
Instruments: Piano Voice Violin Cello Viola
I've been singing since I was a child. I've played in school orchestra and church praise band even before college. I've performed for the president and sung in Moscow's Red Square. My studies have focused on liturgical church music though my pentecostal church background has helped combine spirit with tradition. I currently teach music to grades K-5 in a public charter school in Duval County, Florida. Read More
Instruments: Flute Oboe English Horn
My initial lesson with the student is to learn what they do and do not know and to establish proper playing and hand techniques. I interact with the students to learn what they enjoy playing and what they want to accomplish as well. It is very important to me to make music fun and interesting for them to learn. I spend the majority of the lesson going over what they were assigned the previous week and then the last part of the lesson is going over what I am assigning for the next lesson and playing some of the music so they can hear what it is supposed to sound like. Instruments: Piano
I tailor my teaching methods based on my students' individual needs. I use the following methods: The Alfred method uses a lot of colored pictures and graphics. The Bastien Method The Piano Party Series is great for those little ones who have never had lessons before. It is a lot of fun for the teachers also. We would suggest that the lyrics of the pieces be omitted, but the pictures and graphics are positive. Read More
