In my last semester at Butler, I student taught at Avon High School for band and Franklin Township Middle School East for choir. Responsibilities at the former included sole direction of Concert Percussion, intermediate Symphonic Band, and AP Music Theory, and at the latter 7th Grade General Music and 8th Grade Mixed Choir. Regular practice, especially for younger students, is essential as it helps to create a progressive connection to their instrument. I've found that selecting music WITH my student, and not just assigning work that I want them to like, goes a long way in helping students enjoy singing and motivates them to practice and continue to learn. Since then, I developed my own studio of voice and piano students and now work at Allegro Music Center in Park Ridge as a piano and voice teacher.
