While doing my bachelor's degree, I tutored students for piano group classes and music theory. When moving to New York, I started teaching piano and voice students in the Queens while doing my master's degree. Two years later, I still have the privilege of teaching those students who have participated in recitals, with enthusiasm to teach more. While teaching, I like to be active in my profession. For beginning students, I prefer to use the Alfred's Basic Piano Course books. Once the student gets down the fundamentals and becomes more technically proficient, I introduce solo repertoire and get them started with some fun and musical etudes to improve finger dexterity. I also like to make the lessons fun and entertaining for the kids by playing some music games or giving rewards. For adult students, I try to find appropriate beginner piano books. Read More

My teaching philosophy is the same for any level student - that the experience be enjoyable, supportive and productive. The first lesson is a get to know each other and assessment of where you are in your musical journey. I use a variety of different books - note spellers, beginning books etc. - depending on the specific need of each student. Originally from Kansas City, I studied vocal performance, choral conducting and music education at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. I have directed and music directed productions all over the United States, including the current Off-Broadway production of Honestly Abe. I have performed a wide variety of leading roles in everything from opera and operetta, to musical comedy and straight drama. He has been a featured performer with such esteemed organizations as Music Theatre for Young People of Kansas City, The Kansas City Symphony, The Kansas City Lyric Opera, Indiana University Opera Ballet Theatre, the 13th Street Repertory, La Muse Venale Acting Troupe, and the Bloomington Playwrights Project. I am very patient, kind, and really good at just listening out for the need of the student and harmonizing with them. I will teach every student differently because each persons needs are different. Teaching students of all ages is an activity that brings me a lot of joy! I have traveled to India to teach students there, as well as taught in the US. I am always rooting for my students to succeed, and am always striving to create a safe and fun learning environment.
