My love for teaching has grown over the years out of the success I see my students achieve. Being able to guide a student towards vocal growth is the most rewarding part of what I do. I love seeing the "lightbulb" go off for them. I have taken voice lessons for 14 years, and know how it feels to be frustrated vocally but also thriving vocally. I always provide my students with recordings of the exercises we do in class, so that they can practice during the week. I constantly show images of the vocal instrument, Its really important for the student to understand their mechanism, and when teaching young people I share the same information but using a more digestible vocabular. A vital part of developing voice repertoire is exploring various interests and styles. I encourage all vocalists to choose songs that they will enjoy singing, but I will guide my students in exploring any realm otherwise not explored. I encourage healthy singing and practicing techniques that will ensure productive rehearsal without fear of vocal damage. A professor of mine used to always say, "there is no singing without acting", and I ensure that when a student sings a song, they will not only know how to sing properly, but they will also have a deep understanding of what they are singing about and how to convey the message. My teaching style is very relaxed, reassuring, and stress free. There is no overwhelming goals set in place, but growth will be noticed instantly. I am very patient, kind, and really good at just listening out for the need of the student and harmonizing with them. I will teach every student differently because each persons needs are different. I've been lucky enough to start teaching about three years ago under the mentor of my current voice teacher Kate Pazakis (she was taught by Liz Caplan) and I stick to her methodology pretty closely because I find that it is most relatable to the broadest group of students.
