For voice students, I have my own curriculum to help them know how to use their voice in a good way. For piano beginning students I typically start with Piano Adventures method. For Flute students, I start with Rubank Elementary method. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire. I have song lists that have songs in different styles and levels for the student to choose from, and I also encourage students bringing songs they like to keep the lessons engaging and fun. I also like to do rhythm exercises with my younger students for example I will clap a rhythm and have them clap it back to me. I will assign repertoire that is appropriate for their level. An example of this could be the little mermaid song 'Part of Your World'. If I am teaching an intermediate student I will do warm ups up and down the octaves on vowels e-eh-ah-oh-ooh, I will also do staccato exercises as well as teaching breathing techniques. Read More
