Besides teaching music I also tutored kids in various academic subjects and taught dance classes. My favorite teaching experience is when I took on a nine-year-old piano student who had never written a song, and wouldn’t practice to save his life. I found that getting him to write a piece of music that was entirely his own helped him to practice his technique in a way that was fun and creatively satisfying.
