I started teaching private lessons in high school. I taught guitar, bass, piano, voice, and songwriting lessons at Biryukov Academy of Arts and Music for 5 years for both kids and adult beginners. I have performed, written and music directed a children's theatre tour where I taught children to sing, act, and perform in front of large crowds. The classes are planned based on the individual's voice range. In general, classes begin with breathing techniques, followed by vocal warm-ups. Students at a beginner level will learn German lieder or Italian songs from the "24 Italian Songs and Arias" from the Schirmer's Publishing. Not all students are created the same! I do my best to adjust my teaching style and lesson for each student. Especially for novice students, I adjust the pace in order for the student to ease into the instrument. Especially with piano, I advocate warming up and practicing effectively. In my opinion, it is best to work smarter and be efficient with practice time. It is important to me to not only have good technique and a fundamental knowledge of music theory, but to understand the who, what, where, when, how, and why in the music. Read More
