I tailor a student's curriculum to their musical goals and needs, while making sure that I am instilling the fundamentals needed for pursuing music at the college scholarship level. Often this means scales, chords, arpeggios, music literacy, performance practice and listening skills. To accomplish this, I use standard materials that are often available online and are used by college and University music programs around the world. I have a variety of method books in different styles and from different time periods, and will select, assign, and provide a Method book to a student based on the student's goals. Read More

I have no expectations of my students until they show me what they're capable of. After our first two lessons, I start to really stress the importance of practicing on their own time as well. Singing is part muscle memory and your muscles can't memorize what they aren't consistently doing! I use a very kinesthetic approach to my teaching in that I focus on how the entire body feels when my student is singing the correct way versus how it feels when they are singing incorrectly (unhealthily). As for vocal lessons, I'll figure out a student's vocal range and voice type, then ask them the kind of songs they want to sing, and why they want to sing them. If the student has vocal experience, I can help them expand their repertoire whether it be for theater auditions, choir tryouts, school group auditions, college prep, or just for fun! I try to incorporate as much learning in a light, fun filled environment as possible to keep the student interested. I have always loved music. I began singing in church when I was only five years old. I began studying the piano when I was eight years old, and was privileged to become the church pianist at fourteen. As a lifelong student of music I have a lengthy music education, including studying the piano at the Birmingham Southern University Conservatory of Music.
