I like to use the 24 Italian Songs and Arias (Italian Art Songs) book as a basis for learning breath technique, legato, use of vowels and musicality, as well as being exposed to a foreign language. If the new student is a younger child, I begin them with Hal Leonard's Guitar Method Book One.
