I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. I find that a mix of classic technique with something more modern such as pop, rock or jazz can ignite the inspiration to actually want to learn more of the complex yet essential aspects of music. My students are encouraged to compose their own music as well as collaborate with other students to create and share their work. When I graduated in 2016, I started giving vocal lessons on weekends at students homes. The following year, I started giving elementary piano lesson.
