Sight singing, aural skills, music theory, and efficient practice techniques will all be at the forefront. My general rule of thumb is, the younger the student, the less technique I will teach. Although I do not necessarily consider there to be a minimum age requirement for pursuing voice lessons, I do copiously encourage parents to be astutely aware of the potential risks encountered when young students are taught vocal and breathing techniques which should be reserved for intermediate or advanced students. I teach a relaxed, free style. I want my students to feel comfortable to move around the room. Our work in the studio is experimental. I am happy with whatever progress we make each week, as long as there is some progression. I particularly emphasize this point with my youngest voice students. All progression is a victory. The first two things that I teach in my studio is posture and breathing. I analyze the posture of the singer and find several yoga postures that can help the student to relax some tension and to be more comfortable. I help students to be more aware of how the breath works in their bodies by using several repeating breath exercises and yoga posture. My vocal technique is based on YogaVoice, meaning that I used Yoga principles combined with Vocal Technique exeecises to sing more organic and to achieve an authentic relaxed voice. Read More
