In the past 6 years I have been teaching groups and privately voice lessons and music theory (topics such as ear traning, solfege, harmony and improvisation). For all students, my main objective is to help find and develop a healthy vocal technique so that the voice remains clear and beautiful for years to come. For piano students ages 5-9, I generally use the Faber and Faber Piano Adventures series. For piano ages 10-12 I use the Older Beginner series. My teen and adult students normally work out of and Adult All in One series. For more advanced piano students Ill work repertoire, theory and scales/technique as needed/desired by the student. I started on my journey when I was 18. I had been singing for several years in a Black Sabbath cover band , and I had developed vocal nodules. Back then, surgery was suggested, and so surgery I had. My method varies depending on the student. If the student wants a traditional musical approach, and is interested in learning notation and theory, then we will usually start with the Hal Leonard Book Series. If the student doesn’t want to learn notes or the more advanced musical concepts, I usually just start by teaching them simple songs that they know from the radio, TV Shows or movies.
