I always begin with an assessment lesson during which the student and I can become acquainted and I can learn the students ambitions, levels of development, and personal style. For voice students Ibegin with basic vocal technique, including the study of breathing, posture, voice placement, diction, and English and Italian pronunciation for singing. After assessment, I will parallel technical study with the study of period repertoire, genre styles, and stage presence. Read More

My life's work is to spread the joy of learning and playing music and helping all who wish to learn to hone or to obtain the skills needed to do just that. I have successfully done so professionally for the past 20 years. I deeply listen and observe the student's needs and respond to each individual with an approach that best suits their goals and have helped dozens of students of all ages bring out the inner-musician in themselves. My teaching experiences started when I was in college, a fellow classmate of mine needed help with some of her younger students and the world of music education opened up to me from there. I have been teaching steadily now for 7 years, working with students from ages 5-55. I have taught group and private lessons in music studios, students' homes, or my own home studio. Students I have come across in time have come with a multitude of personality types, learning patterns and physical challenges. Read More

Voice progress is very personal to each student. Not only is every voice unique, but so are the student's goals. Singing needs to be fun and inspirational- or you won't keep up with it. The skills you will learn in my studio will help you get into college, find a job (with better interviewing skills), and express yourself. These are tools that you will take with you for the rest of your life. Read More

Even though all students require different needs, I will usually start my lessons by warming up the voice with different exercises. After that, I will work on repertoire with the student. My favorite book for beginning singers is the 24 Italian Songs Arias. A lot of good habits and technique can be learned through repertoire. In my voice lessons, I'll focus on breathing, resonance, singer's health, good practice habits, musicianship, pronunciation/diction, and performance. Read More

I never assume a student cannot succeed. Progress comes quickly with a variety of songs supported by successive exercises and methodology. Parental involvement is highly recommended and I try to work with parents to determine motivational techniques. I have found that students need a regular practice time 4 to 5 times a week, even if it is only a few minutes at a time; but, hopefully, we can find music that they like to sit down and play.
