For beginning students (children or adults) I begin with an introduction to the major scale and implement it into our vocal warm-ups. Once the student has developed and progressed over certain aspects I will introduce repertoire that will be learned and performed at the end. I often create my own custom lesson plans because every student is different and requires certain attention. I continued to study classical violin until about 16, when I became highly involved in choir and theater. I was selected for the Texas All State Mixed Chorus three years in a row. I also sang professionally for St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Houston for three years. At about this time I also began teaching myself piano, and have continued my growth on the instrument to this day. I attended the University of Houston initially as a Vocal performance major with a music scholarship but had become burnt out from the rigors of professional classical music training and performance. Knowing the passion, interest level, and motivation of the students helps me create a method of teaching that is specific to the individual. I also learn their experience and knowledge level.
