I am a passionate teacher and performing who is primarily focussed in opera, but well versed in all vocal styles. I currently teach voice at Queens College as well as maintaining a private studio in Brooklyn. I have been performing for 14+ years professionally since graduating with my Bachelor's degree in 2007. Teaching requires time and effort but it also needs to be fun, therefore my lessons have both components, while setting up short and long term goals we explore music in fun ways that allows for self expression and we stay focused by having a clear goal for every lesson. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements , kids musical theatre collection and daffodil, violets and snowflakes. We work on Breath control, pitch and tone resonance, diction, and reading music Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. A vital part of developing voice repertoire is exploring various interests and styles. I encourage all vocalists to choose songs that they will enjoy singing, but I will guide my students in exploring any realm otherwise not explored. I encourage healthy singing and practicing techniques that will ensure productive rehearsal without fear of vocal damage. A professor of mine used to always say, "there is no singing without acting", and I ensure that when a student sings a song, they will not only know how to sing properly, but they will also have a deep understanding of what they are singing about and how to convey the message. I have been directing the childrens choir at my church since 2009, here I develop lessons for students 5-10, each week to get them performance ready for performances once every 2 months. I have also been a voice instructor for the past year. I love being able to watch my students grow and learn the beautiful art of music.
