For students before 18, I suggest them to sing more fun and lighter repertoire without trying too hard and building bad habits. For some students who need advice for auditions and competitions, I love to discuss with them openly about plans, repertoire choices, and characterization, and I offer more physical and mental practice to make them well-prepared. For my string students, I typically use Hal Leonard's Essential Elements at first, and then I introduce the Suzuki Method for solo repertoire once they have progressed on their instruments. For my vocal students, I find what type of music my student is interested in, and I then recommend a voice book that we will pick repertoire from. For my piano students, I use the Piano Adventures series, which includes the fundamentals as well as solo repertoire. Read More

I like to find songs that students really care about, because then they will be more interested in learning them. My teaching style is very flexible in that all students are different, and learn in different ways. Ive taught really young kids and Ive also taught seniors. From a young age I have been an active teacher. Advanced for my age I vividly remember tutoring my classmates in the Fourth grade. Throughout the rest of my schooling I served in some sort of volunteer tutor capacity, helping classmates and younger students. While in undergrad at DePauw University I served as an Orientation/First-Year Seminar Mentor, helping first year students adjust to campus academic and social life.
