I'm a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love of music. In 2007, I graduated from the University of Central Arkansas with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Piano/Trombone Performance. We set goals and work on their vocal books which can be used for any audition, performance or personal events. Vocal students are encouraged to pick songs from whatever genre sparks their interest.  With violin and viola I use the suzuki method of training and follow the books and lessons, and I use other books to supplement scales/technique.  If a student already has musical literature I am very open to using that to build a specific curriculum for that student. As I mentioned before, my teaching style can best be described as easygoing, but precise and adapted to each students needs. I focus on the person trying to learn as much as on the learning itself. Yet, Im not demanding or harsh in my delivery or expectations. Rather than a standard, vanilla approach, I try learn my students personality, learning style, and sense of humor pretty quickly and work to adapt the facts and knowledge of music to each student as an individual human, not an appointment. . I really desire the child to enjoy lessons. I like to build their confidence that they are achieving. I'm strict in how I teach the language of music. I don't half way teach and desire my students to be able to sight read music and understand timing. If i have a student that doesn't understand I explain in in math and they have all understood how important timing is. I began teaching private lessons in college as a side job, but due to touring with orchestras I was unable to truly develop my own studio. I also volunteer taught students from low-income families through the Azusa Pacific Conservatory for two years. In the summers of 2010 and 2011, I took over a former teacher's studio of 20+ students while he toured in Europe. For beginning piano students, I like to use the Piano Adventure book series. They do a very good job at laying out the basics of piano technique in a fun and colorful way for young children. As the students progress through the series I will encourage them to begin learning pieces on their own and eventually preparing them for recital performances.
