For brass instrumental students, I generally use the Rubank Method books, focusing on care of the instrument and basic fundamentals. For piano students I use a variety of different method books and am not tied down to any one series. We will also work on scales and the Hannon series For vocal students, I use a series of vocalises, scales and other exercises to strengthen the voice. We will then work on repetroire focusing on what the student would sing at a recital performance. Read More

My name is Jarrell. I am a recent graduate of the University of Houston with a Bachelors of Music in Vocal Performance. I have had opportunities to perform recitals, operas and solo performances. I have performed in multiple places across the United States. I have studied music for 12 years, performed in 12 operas, premiered a main role in an opera world premier, given 2 solo recitals, and performed at choral conferences. I firmly believe in establishing long term goals for which the class is being taught and developed. For beginner students who are children, I tend to lean into the music that they are more fond of listening to and develop an atmosphere of interest while using various colors, singing methods, rhymes that will grasp their attention and in the long run develop their ear. For young adults and up, I develop my lesson plans accordingly depending on their level of musicianship. Read More
