For beginning students (regardless of age instrument) I try to simplify the approach and work on a set of warm ups/exercises coupled with a performance piece or song that they can feel good about and lots of fun listening assignments. I've been playing the piano for 15 years as a church accompanist. I currently perform as a church accompanist at a church in Little Rock for 6 years. During summer 2012, I held a piano teaching internship at Rhythm 88 Music School in Little Rock, Arkansas. I performed at Carnegie Weill Hall with my friend, cellist Kyung-min Kang 2013 summer. During that time, the children will occasionally play anything they wish to play that is interesting or fun to them.
