All levels of voice are welcome in my studio! For beginners I generally begin with giving the basics of how the voice functions and focus on breathing for singing. Then we ease into vocal exercises. After the first few lessons we move on to singing a simple song. I encourage the student to bring in music they like and would like to sing. I begin teaching every student with the same vocal exercises to strengthen the voice and then we discuss different styles and how the voice can change stylistically but not technically. Read More

For all my students I design a fun atmosphere where they feel comfortable, stimulated and encouraged to absorb musical knowledge. Depending on their musical backgrounds and their ability I discuss with my students and their parents(depending on student's age) what is their primary goal to achieve during the lesson, what style they want to concentrate on. When we get to know each other I assign my student with Vaccai classical tune (practices vocal technique) and two songs in style preferred, when a student learns and masters these we move on, with more difficult tunes each time. I teach out of instructional books, notably books by Hal Leonard, Mel Bay, and Alfred. Sometimes, I use sheet music print outs, or draft up my own exercises.  I go back in forth in a non-conventional manner, adapting accordingly to the student's needs.  I like to incorporate exercises and warm ups to improve and enchance technique.  I also teach songs that the student would like to learn.  I'm very patient and rarely rigid in my approach, although I do stick to a general routine that allows a focused approach to learning. I try to relax the student first with body relaxation and breathing methods. We then do warm up vocal exercises to build the voice and then work on songs. I play the accompaniments on piano for them and they can record all of the lesson. I also do vocal coaching and incorporate acting methods. Piano students need to learn how to play basic songs first but then we can start to incorporate songs or other music they like into their lessons. Read More

My teaching experience dates back to the mid 2000's when I began teaching children's musical theater classes for various organisations, such as Vogue Entertainment, Barking Gecko Theatre Company, The Song Room and Majkidz, in my hometown of Perth, Western Australia. I also began teaching private lessons to 8-16 year olds, focusing mainly on musical theater and classical repertoire.
