I have built a private studio on the foundations of traditional bel canto technique with a strong emphasis on the Italian School. I believe in consistent practice with scales, arpeggios and other exercises that help students build and strengthen their voices and navigate their registers. I began teaching private lessons back in undergrad. I found that I really enjoy getting to know someone one-on-one, and I think I'm particularly effective at figuring out how to communicate knowledge, create art and inspire on that level! The experience of my students has run the gamut; I've taught 5-year old and 65-year old beginners, I've taught students who already have an undergrad degree in music. While I was a graduate student at Columbia University, I had the chance to collaborate with and learn from some of the amazing talent the New York City has to offer. I base my teaching style on the individual student and how they learn.  Some students learn more by rote, others learn more by oral and others learn more by understanding theory.  I always incorporate proper technique so that the student developes as quickly as possible. For those students who like working from a more traditional sense I work primarily with the John Thompsen and Bastien Piano Methods. Other students, especially students that start at an older age I work immediately by having them play familiar songs and melodies and as their technique improves providing them with more difficult music to play.
