Voice Lessons in Fagleysville, PA

Instruments: Voice

I teach breath, posture, resonance, placement and help students get over their mental hurdles to sing their best. When they are getting the basics, I will introduce music of their favorite styles into lessons and we will work on technique seperately and through these repertoire selections. At the end of each lesson, I will give students homework and three to five goals for the week. I give them a very clear idea of what they need to do at home to keep progress moving forward. I began teaching lessons in college, but grew my studio while I was preparing for grad school auditions from 2010-2012. Most of my students at that time were beginner piano lessons and I love to teach young children. I also greatly enjoy teaching children with autism. I have had success in combining my music education and music therapy skills to help students accomplish musical goals while also addressing behavioral goals such as increasing verbal or nonverbal communication. I teach both classical reading and modern music theory to ensure a well rounded approach. I use the book series by Faber to cover classical reading. I believe Faber books do an excellent job at covering all areas of music. I make sure to keep tabs on my students' practicing as I believe in consistency. The student will be given work that is reasonable to practice once a day for at least 10-20 minutes a day. Read More

Recognizing that each student is unique, i.e., their instruments, learning styles, mental and emotional make-up, etc., I need to be flexible in how I work with each student. There is no one-size-fits-all! I work to understand each student's learning style and adapt my teaching accordingly. I ask a lot of questions, asking the student to think about their own learning style, what they are experiencing, hearing, and feeling. This not only gives me cues on how to better adapt my teaching style to them, but gets them thinking about what they are doing and reinforces their learning, which in turn helps them in their own practice by starting to become their own best teacher.
