I approach each student differently because each person has different strengths, needs, and goals. No two lessons are ever taught the same way because each one is tailored to the individual. I am happy to work with students on specific repertoire for auditions or other events, and/or on general literature simply for the love of singing and the joy of growth. I create custom lessons for each student in my studio. Its important to me that students feel they are progressions towards their goals and I prioritize that in my lesson planning. I typically give students 2 or 3 songs to practice at a time, and I always include a classical or folk art song, and a musical theater song. It is important to me that students enjoy the songs they sing and I involve them in choosing the songs they are assigned. Read More

It’s important to be able to gain that knowledge of theory early to help students be more independent. For adults on piano, we would work together to find repertoire to fit their skill level and interest to keep things engaging and relevant. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. Since that time, I has also served as visual Consultant for several high schools in California and in Utah. In 2007, I took a position with the Blue Devils C Drum and Bugle Corps as Visual Concept and Marching Instructor as well as a Brass Hornline Instructor. I also served as Marching and Visual Concept Instructor for the Blue Devils B Drum and Bugle Corps in 2010, helping them win their second DCI World Champion title, the DCI Open Class Visual Performance and General Effect Titles as well as the DCI Fan Network Choice Award.
