For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. For beginning students who are ages 8-13 will first use the Standard of Excellence red book and then they will transfer to the blue book. Intermediate and Advance will use the Foundations for superior performance book. We will start to pick solos that they are able to play and work on them. In 2007, I took a position with the Blue Devils C Drum and Bugle Corps as Visual Concept and Marching Instructor as well as a Brass Hornline Instructor. I also served as Marching and Visual Concept Instructor for the Blue Devils B Drum and Bugle Corps in 2010, helping them win their second DCI World Champion title, the DCI Open Class Visual Performance and General Effect Titles as well as the DCI Fan Network Choice Award.
